Alexandra Christine Bradshaw

Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, Bradshaw was a painter, etcher and lithographer. She studied in California with Hans Hoffmann, W.T. Hedges, Rex Slinkard, and Andre Lhote in Paris. From 1922 - 1948 she was head of the art department at Fresno State College, in 1938 she summered in Laguna Beach, and by 1954, she married Clarence Hoag and lived in Wakefield, MA. The Hoags made their home in a castle Clarence designed and built on a large acreage outside Boston. Alex, as she signed her works, was a member of many art groups including the following: Pacific Association of Artists; San Francisco Society of Women Artists; Fresno Art Association; California Watercolor Society, Laguna Beach Art Association, Society of Boston Water Color Painters. Bradshaw exhibited at the following: Golden Gate International Exhibition, 1939; San Francisco Museum of Art; Riverside Museum; and the Laguna Beach Art Association.
