Doris Rosenthal Biography
Born in Riverside, California to Julius Rosenthal and Ann Unruh Rosenthal, Doris Rosenthal graduated from Los Angeles State Teachers College and did graduate study at Columbia University in 1912-13.
From 1918-1919, she studied at the Art Students League in New York with George Bellows and John Sloan and then studied in Europe. For several years she taught art in schools in New York City.
In 1931, she received a Guggenheim Fellowship with which she traveled in Mexico. There she found the subjects which seemed the right focus for her work--Old Mexico, its color, its people and landscape.
She appears to have had a substantial career. I recall that Life Magazine
gave her a nice spread during the mid 1940s. Chase and Sanborn Coffee used
her work in their ads, and I find that reproductions of these ads, clipped
from magazines, show up on ebay from time to time. When she died in 1971
